Big Tesuque Creek

Ted Rice Palladium Print - 17 x 14 x 1"

The Big Tesuque Trail is the forgotten link in the extensive trail system on the west face of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Santa Fe. Hikers flock to nearby trails, but Big Tesuque is usually an excellent choice for a walk in solitude. This loop, which is a variation of the popular Bear Wallow Triangle hike, is delightful in midsummer when wildflowers dot the meadows or in fall when the canyon slopes become golden with turning aspen leaves. The aspens, colonizers of the forest following fire, are evidence of the crucial role wildfires play in maintaining the forest mosaic in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The huge aspens along the trail date from fires in the early decades of the twentieth century.

Palladium prints are made using an iron based process are are virtually identical to platinum prints, except they are generally warmer in tone.

11x14 inches. Shot with Kodak 11x14 camera and Ilex process Paragon. It takes about 60-70 lb of equipment carried to location to shoot this type of landscape. Exposure for the film was 1 1/2 minutes at F45. Archivally matted and framed. Signed and dated by Ted Rice

Ted's work is held in several museum's around the world including the Amon Carter Collection; CCP, Tucson; Chicago Art Institute; Coccoran Gallery of Art; and the Flower Festival Museum of Osaka, Japan
