art. Completely rewritten and reorganized for this second edition, it covers in depth the 'traditional' graphic processes of map design and production, but does not attempt to include the large and rapidly
changing field of digital computer mapping. The book is divided into four sections, each beginning with a basic outline of the problems and processes concerned and their place in cartography as a whole. Definition of a MapCartographic
technology, image generation and reproduction in cartography and then
proceeds to a detailed treatment of graphic reproduction processes and
lithographic printing.Sequence of stages from organisation and planning of a map, through the production processes to the final proof.Applied
cartography - major map types in detail, including topographic maps,
maps for travel and recreation, nautical charts, thematic and
statistical maps, and atlases. The concluding chapter summarises developments in a cartographic theory and research in the second half of the present century.
