Spectacular landscape view by 19th century American artist
G L Brown (1814-1889) This print, View Near Rome, 1854, is an example of George Loring Brown's homage to the painter Claude, who was his stylistic inspiration.

Etching on warm cream wove paper, image size 5 x 7.5 inches. Back features the library stamp of Mrs. J. Morgan Slade. In very good condition, with large margins. The paper color, did not render in the scan. Signed on plate in center, lower edge, G L Brown, Rome, 1854.

 (Etching is the process of using strong acid to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal . As an intaglio method of printmaking it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains widely used today)
