Ganesh, a deity with the head of an elephant, revered in both Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, hand painted on a medallion, complemented with Dzi stones and Amazonite. This necklace measures approximately 23 inches in length.
The painting, from India, is executed in watercolor or gouache, mounted in a silver frame (composition unknown), and covered with glass on the front.
The painting is about 1 5/8 inches in diameter.
Devotees sometimes interpret this elephant head as indicating
intelligence, discriminative power, fidelity, or other attributes
thought to be had by elephants. The large elephant ears are said to
denote wisdom and the ability to listen to people who seek help.
Surrounding Ganesh is a garland of eight real Dzi stones, made of etched Carnelian. Dzi stones are considered to be powerfully lucky in Tibetan lore.
The light green stones are Amazonite.
The clasp is handmade by a Navajo silversmith. All the beads are sterling silver.
This is a Ted Rice Design necklace.
