Description

Journal of a Santa Fe Trader : James Josiah Webb started out with a loan of $600 and a dream of making a fortune out west. By the age of 43 he had enough to retire back to the East Coast, but not without a few stories of the Wild West and how his fortune was won.

Set in the era of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, provisional President of Mexico and his decrees affecting trade in New Mexico, James Josiah Webb takes us along in his journey as a merchant on both sides of the border, and through the Mexican-American wars, including being detained as prisoners of the Mexican government.
