Cocteau
on the film
Conversations with Jean Cocteau, recorded by Andre Fraigneau, 30 illustrations
Jean
Cocteau was the first major poet to work in film. His films like his
poems, plays and drawings are unique -- there is nothing like them in
cinema history. Yet he did not consider himself a film-maker. He was a
poet saying things with images instead of words.
And
despite the uncompromisingly noncommercial nature of his films, they
have continued to be seen, and to be appreciated as among the finest
achievements of cinematic art.
In this series of lively
conversations, Cocteau talks about his films -- Beauty and the Beast,
Blood of a Poet, Orpheus, Les Parents Terribles and those that are less
well known...
