Writing from the heart, weekend-wanderer Roland A. Pettitt describes where to go and what to see in the Jemez Mountains north of Albuquerque and west of Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Pettitt's trips on paved and dirt roads explore this fascinating area of old volcanoes, tuff cliffs, mountain meadows, stream cut canyons, ghost towns, wildflowers, deep and ladybugs.

His book, first published in 1975, has been revised and expanded by Dorothy Hoard using articles which Pettitt wrote before his death in 1987. Hoard has also drawn new road maps and unique three dimensional maps depicting the up and down terrain. The photographs are by Pettitt and John V. Young.
