Description

Rare Catalog of Aristocratic Adornments of India, 3rd Century B.C. to 20th Century by Tsajon Von Lixfeld

The vocation of jewelry making in India goes back to Vedic times, when the use of precious metals and gemstones was carefully prescribed in the holy books (Vedas and Puranas). There is, unfortunately, nothing for us to see from this era; the earliest artifacts of jewelry come from the Indus valley civilization of 3000 B.C.

In the 4th Century B.C. there was a profound impact on Indian art. Alexander the Great never conquered India, but he left a great influence in the arts, not least of which was the art of adornment.... what you will see at this exhibition is just a glimpse of the myriad designs that have been produced over the ages. 53 pages, full color photos.
CONDITION: Soft Cover, USED. light overall wear, crease to cover, 53 pages, stated First Edition 1998, RARE. The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, California.
