He soon became one of the greatest of the mountain men. His colorful career including scouting, trapping, fighting, buffalo hunting.

Three times he accompanied the famous explorer, John Charles Fremont, on his western expeditions.

Baptized a Catholic at the age of thirty-two, Carson participated in the Mexican War and the War Between the States, in his later years making valued contributions toward peace and justice as a government Indian Agent.
