Description

His painting was shaped early on by realism, softened by French Impressionism, and the Post-impressionism of Renoir and Cézanne.

Though Kroll painted landscapes and still lifes, the single, constant theme of his work was the female form.

He painted distinguished murals for the Justice Building in Washington, and at Johns Hopkins University, and his work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian.

The first major retrospective of Leon Kroll's work in over 2 decades. This exhibition spans fifty six years of his painting, including well-known paintings.

Also included are works he exhibited in the Armory Show in 1913 & the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915 in addition to several fine landscapes of Santa Fe and New Mexico and representations of the female form.

CONDITION: Softcover, 126 pages, light wear to cover, vg+ condition, includes chronology, 47 color plates, 8 black and white illustrations. Gerald Peters Gallery
