Description

When Carl Jung was a young doctor in the military service during the First World War he began each morning by drawing a mandala, a penciled circle within which he sketched an image rising from his inmost being. By reflecting on his mandalas he felt he understood himself better.

Intrigued by this idea, the author began a similar experience. The results are collected in this book.

Jung founded his theory of the Collective Unconscious, perhaps his greatest single contribution to the field of psychiatry/ philosophy, upon mandalas, his own and those his patients created.

When he compared them with mandalas found over all the world, painted on walls, glazed on pots, set in ancient manuscripts of East and West, he perceived the deep connections amongst us all.

Rising from this insight are all of Jung's archetypes: the Great Mother, the Dying Man / God, the Trickster, the Spirit, the Hero, Rebirth, etc.

No revelation as profound as Jung's is claimed for this book. Nevertheless, the reality of human growth is revealed along with an awareness of the beauty of the spirit and hope for the resolution of turmoil and fear.

CONDITION: Hard Cover with DJ, USED with light overall wear, 1979, hand printed and drawn, 52 Mandalas, 37 in full color. Number 219 of 1000, signed by author.
