Peter Moran Etching Landscape & Cattle c. 1881 India proof on paper, after the painting by Van Marcke. Image size 7.75 x 6.25 inches.

In very good condition with large margins, supplied in archival study mat.  Carefully printed with good inking and rich tonality.



Original etching by noted American artist Peter Moran (1842 - 1914). The artist was born on Bolton England, and died in Philadelphia. He was the brother of artists Thomas Moran, Edward Moran, and brother in law of artist Mary Nimmo Moran. He was a distinguished member of the New York Etching Club. His etched work may be found in many important museum collections, including the Achenbach foundation, Illinois State Museum collection, Smithsonian Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art. Peter Moran was highly regarded for his etchings of animals, and was frequently hired to etch other artist’s paintings which included cattle or horses.

 (Etching is the process of using strong acid to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal . As an intaglio method of printmaking it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains widely used today)
