This is a compiled index of New Mexican Photographers between 1854 and 1912, for historians to date or identify photos carrying no more information than a photographer's name. Conducted under joint sponsorship of the Museum of Albuquerque and the Museum of New Mexico with partial funding by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

No photographs, other than the one on the cover, are shown within. Entries generally give what biographical information is available, either from family or print sources. A survey of the photographers of this area, listed alphabetically by surname and by town.
