In 1923, Alnah James Johnston set off on a journey to China from her hometown of Portland, Maine. As a teacher of English in Peking and as a representative of Wellesley College, Alnah had the opportunity to travel across the country, see how the people lived and the arts. This book written later in her life and first published in 1976 includes photographs and memories of her time with these people.
