Photograms of the Year, which began publication in 1895 as an illustrated review of the year's leading exhibitions of pictorial photography, now presents it 59th consecutive volume. It contains a selection from the more important photographic salons of the year, with a critical commentary by R.H. Mason, M.A. FRPS FIBP

The pictures chosen have been exhibited in many of the most important photographic exhibitions of the world, and are here reproduced with the greatest care for accuracy in high quality photogravure. The world-wide popularity of photography as a means of artistic expression is shown by the fact that the pictures represent the work of some twenty countries and cover every phase of pictorial art and technique.

In addition to the 72 plates selected, a section of 16 plates shows the work of masters of pictorial photography in earlier years. These have been chosen from the Permanent Collection of the Royal Photographic Society which celebrates its centenary this year.

The plates are accompanied by an article provided by J. Dudley Johnston, Hon. FRPS for many years curator of the Royal Photographic Society and the leading authority on this subject.
