The Wild White Goose
by Roshi Jiyu Kennett
This book is based on the diaries of the years in Japan of
Roshi Jiyu-Kennett, one of the first Western women to become a Zen
Master.
In addition to telling of her search for Truth and how
she found Enlightenment in the midst of suffering, illness, and
hardship, it gives the reader a rare and illuminating insight into the
life in a large Zen training monestary.
The often
baffling, sometimes cruel-appearing, actions of the monks are seen
here, not through the eyes of a casual visitor or one who stayed a few
months or years and left, but in the perspective of a woman who stayed
and trained 8 years and who was certified as a full priest and Roshi.
