What is a stereo card? From the late 1800s to early 1900s it was a way for travelers to explore the world without leaving home. These cards were meant to be examined in a gadget called a stereo viewer. The images from these time periods reflect a way of life, cultures, city-states that have disappeared into the passages of time. TYPES of STEREO CARDS Real Photo (black and white glossy pasted onto a card), Lithographs, Color Chromes (two previous printed onto a card), all with their individual benefits and drawbacks. Did you know that color photographs were not a common standard of photography until the late 1950s? So if you wanted to see an image in color before that time, chance were, it had to be colored by hand, thus the popularity of lithography and color chrome stereo cards.
