From back of card : According to some estimates, there is more timber in Washington than in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota combined or than in all the yellow-pine states of the South....The lumber industry in this state was of slight importance before 1880; it was already large in 1890; by 1900 it was tremendous. More than 52,000 cars of lumber and shingles were shipped eastward from Washington in 1901.

Lumber is a large item in the trade of the Puget Sound ports, which has become almost world wide within 20 years. The demand for ocean carriage is so great that the Great Northern railway recently finsished several steamers of more than 20,000 tons each for its Pacific trade.
