Description

Laura is a spirited little girl. She loves her father very much. He is the embodiment of everything wonderful, imaginative and loving, everything her mother relentlessly disparages. One night Laura awakens in alarm, feeling that something terrible has happened. Instinctively, she clings to her favorite toy, a large Pinocchio puppet her father had given her to be her magical companion when he wasn't with her.

Abruptly, Laura's mother enters the room and tries to pry Pinocchio from her arms. Laura cries out for her father. Your father is dead, her mother says coldly, and rushes from the room. Too young to know what dying means, Laura does know that everything warm, loving and safe has been ripped from her.

Terrified, she hugs Pinocchio with all her might. Suddenly the puppet comes to life in her arms, just as her father had promised! Heartened Pinocchio's transformation, Laura is determined to go out into the universe to find her father, no matter how difficult the journey or how faraway he might be...

Excerpts from the Elsewhere:

Casting off his human form, King Triton rose above the lace of leaves that dappled Magdalena. Seeing her immersed in the dark water, her radiant face a luminous blossom up lifted to the moon, he was moved to pity for all things beautiful, ephemeral and brave.

Aware that something very important was going on, Duke sat silently beside Laura as they watched the changing colors of the sea.

Duke, do you ever have dreams you wish for so hard you feel you can make them come true?

Yes, Princess, I do.

Big dreams?

Real big.

Big as the whole Universe?

Bigger, her said, smiling.

Bigger? What could be bigger than the whole Universe?

Sometimes, Princess, what's in your heart.
