Elephants play an important role in South Asia, both in day to day life and in the mythology. Elephants over the centuries have been depicted in the hunt, bathing, hauling, as mystical creatures, of course Ganesha (Ganessa / Ganapati). In addition, their ivory trunks have been used in a wide variety of art forms. Here is a catalog of an exhibition, along with commentary by Pratapaditya Pal on the history, held at the Los Angeles Country Museum.
