The Portland Oregonian special edition soft cover book, 48 pages of color and black and white photographs of Mount St Helen's eruption.

As a young adult I recall the morning she blew. My folks bundled us all into the van and we headed toward the Oregon Coast. Just moments after we left town, the roads were closed by federal decree. Portland was blanketed with ash much like a winter's snow.

For several months after the eruption, we wore face masks to school in the morning to avoid the fine particles kicked into the air by am traffic.
